Blockchain
Blockchain is a secure, decentralized, and distributed digital ledger that stores information in "blocks" that are chronologically linked together using cryptography. This continuous chain of blocks is shared across a network of computers, called nodes, where each participant has an identical and up-to-date copy. This makes the data transparent and immutable, meaning it cannot be altered or deleted without the consensus of the majority of the network.
Extended Reality (XR)
An umbrella term for technologies that blend the physical and digital worlds. It includes Virtual Reality (VR), which creates entirely digital environments; Augmented Reality (AR), which overlays digital information onto the real world; and Mixed Reality (MR), which combines both for a more interactive experience.
Structural Battery Composites
Structural battery composites (SBCs) are multifunctional materials that can serve as both a load-bearing structural component and an energy storage device simultaneously.
Quantum Computing
Quantum computing is a new type of computing that uses the principles of quantum mechanics to solve complex problems that are beyond the reach of traditional computers. Unlike classical computers that use bits, quantum computers use qubits, which can exist in multiple states at once due to the quantum phenomena of superposition and entanglement.
Electric Vehicles (EVs)
These are vehicles that run on electricity instead of gasoline. They are powered by a battery that drives one or more electric motors, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. EVs are a key technology for reducing air pollution and reliance on fossil fuels in transportation.
Advanced Nuclear Technologies
Advanced nuclear technologies refer to a new generation of nuclear reactor designs and fuel cycle approaches that aim to improve upon traditional reactors. These innovations focus on enhanced safety, increased efficiency, reduced waste, and greater flexibility through designs like Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs).
