Rwanda Launches “Mbaza” Digital Platform to Improve Citizen-Government Engagement

Rwanda’s Ministry of Local Government is set to launch a new digital platform called Mbaza, designed to help citizens communicate directly with their leaders without leaving their homes. The initiative aims to strengthen citizen participation and improve access to public services through technology.

The platform will allow users to ask questions, submit concerns, and share feedback with relevant authorities in a simple and accessible way. By moving these interactions online, Mbaza is expected to reduce the need for physical visits to government offices and make communication faster and more efficient.

What Is Mbaza and How Will It Work?

Mbaza is a government-backed digital platform focused on citizen engagement. Through the platform, residents will be able to:

• Share ideas and feedback on public services
• Seek clarification from local leaders and institutions

Pilot Launch in Kigali

According to the Ministry of Local Government, Mbaza began its pilot phase in the City of Kigali on Tuesday, 27 January 2026 through citizen’s regular meetups (inteko z’abaturage). The pilot will help test the platform’s usability, responsiveness, and overall impact before it is rolled out nationwide.

If successful, the platform will be expanded to other parts of the country, enabling more Rwandans to engage with leaders regardless of location.
