Rwanda and Oman Expand Cooperation in Digital Infrastructure and Technology

Rwanda is strengthening its digital transformation efforts through a new partnership with the Sultanate of Oman. The two countries have signed cooperation agreements aimed at boosting collaboration in digital infrastructure, technology, and logistics.

The partnership reflects Rwanda’s broader strategy to attract international partners that can support its growing digital economy and regional connectivity goals.

Focus on Digital Infrastructure and Emerging Technologies

One of the agreements centers on cooperation in digital infrastructure, including data centers, cloud computing, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). The collaboration is expected to support knowledge exchange, capacity building, and the development of digital systems that improve service delivery and innovation.

For Rwanda, this partnership offers an opportunity to strengthen its ICT ecosystem by learning from Oman’s experience in digital infrastructure development. The cooperation could also support local institutions and tech companies involved in building and managing digital platforms.

Strengthening Logistics and Connectivity

Beyond technology, the agreements also cover logistics and transport cooperation. Rwanda and Oman will work together on logistics services, including the development and management of dry ports and supply chain operations. This is expected to improve trade efficiency and support Rwanda’s role as a regional logistics hub.

The partnership also includes plans to improve air connectivity between the two countries. Oman Air has announced intentions to introduce direct flights between Muscat and Kigali, subject to regulatory approvals. Direct flights would support business travel, tourism, and trade between East Africa and the Gulf region.
