Africa's fintech calendar is heating up. On 24 March 2026, Johannesburg will host the 2nd edition of the Africa Fintech Forum, a high-level, invitation-only gathering for senior decision-makers shaping the future of digital finance on the continent.
What the Forum Is About
Running from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (SAST), the forum brings together regulators, central bank officials, company executives, and fintech innovators for candid discussions on regulation, innovation, payments, and financial inclusion.
Attendees can expect panel discussions, presentations on emerging technologies such as blockchain, AI in finance, and mobile payments, as well as networking sessions between startups and investors. The event's invitation-only format is designed for focused, high-quality dialogue among senior industry leaders rather than the mass participation model of larger open conferences.
Not to Be Confused With the Kigali Forum
Readers familiar with the fintech space may recall a recent forum of a similar nature held closer to home. The Inclusive FinTech Forum (IFF) 2026 took place in Kigali from 10 to 12 March 2026 at the Kigali Convention Centre. Organised by the Kigali International Financial Centre, the National Bank of Rwanda, and the Global Finance & Technology Network, IFF 2026 convened over 3,000 global leaders around the theme of advancing financial inclusion through fintech.
The two events are separate and serve different purposes. While the IFF (in Rwanda) is a globally-oriented policy and inclusion platform, the Africa Fintech Forum is a regionally-focused, invitation-only series targeting senior industry leaders across African markets.
A Series Spanning the Continent
The Johannesburg event is only the first stop. The Africa Fintech Forum is running as a multi-city series throughout 2026, with subsequent editions planned in Kenya in June, Egypt in September, and West Africa in November. Each edition is tailored to the regulatory and innovation landscape of its host country.
For Rwandan startups and investors, continental forums like these offer a window into where Africa's fintech industry is heading in terms of regulation, investment, and cross-border expansion. With Rwanda's own fintech ecosystem growing rapidly, staying connected to these regional conversations is increasingly important.
