Open Source Kigali Opens Applications for Campus Ambassador Program

Open Source Kigali has opened applications for its Campus Ambassador Program, a student-led initiative aimed at expanding open-source communities across universities in Rwanda. The program seeks to empower students to promote open-source technologies, organize community activities, and encourage collaboration among aspiring developers.

The initiative comes as Rwanda's technology ecosystem continues to grow, creating increased opportunities for students to gain practical experience and engage with developer communities beyond the classroom.

Building Open Source Communities on Campus

According to Open Source Kigali, the program aims to have at least one ambassador representing the community at every university in Rwanda. Selected ambassadors will serve as local representatives, helping connect students to open-source learning and collaboration opportunities.

Their responsibilities will include:

• Organizing campus tech meetups and discussions

• Hosting workshops on open-source tools and software development

• Encouraging students to contribute to open-source projects

• Building active developer communities within their universities

Open Source Kigali says the program is designed to increase awareness of open-source development while creating spaces where students can learn from one another and collaborate on projects.

Developing Leadership and Professional Skills

Beyond technical learning, the Campus Ambassador Program also focuses on helping students develop skills that are valuable in the technology industry.

Participants will gain experience in community leadership, communication, event organization, and team collaboration. They will also have opportunities to engage with a broader network of developers, mentors, and contributors within Rwanda's growing open-source ecosystem.

By leading activities on their campuses, ambassadors will be able to strengthen both their technical and professional capabilities while supporting other students interested in technology.
