MTN South Sudan Opens ICT Hub for Youth in Aweil

MTN South Sudan has officially opened an ICT Skills Hub in Aweil on 31st August 2026, handing the facility over to the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGs) Youth Union to provide young people with computer training and digital skills.

The center, housed in a container at the NBGs Youth Union offices, was unveiled during a ceremony attended by government officials, education sector representatives, community leaders, youth groups, and development partners.

"Opening Doors to New Possibilities"

Speaking at the launch, MTN South Sudan CEO Mapula Bodibe said the initiative goes beyond simply opening a facility, describing it as an effort to open doors to new opportunities, new skills, and new possibilities for the people of Aweil and the wider Northern Bahr el Ghazal region. She noted that meaningful digital access requires knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to learn, not connectivity alone.

Government and Youth Leadership React

Hon. Gabriel Deng Yei, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State's Information and Communication Minister, commended MTN for investing in the state's youth, calling digital skills essential for education, entrepreneurship, and economic growth. He encouraged students and entrepreneurs to make full use of the facility.

The Chairman of the NBGs Youth Union thanked MTN South Sudan for the investment and pledged that the union would take full responsibility for maintaining and protecting the computers and equipment. He also appealed to the state government to fund a security fence around the Youth Center to safeguard the facility.

The MTN South Sudan Regional Representative said the company hopes to see young people graduating in batches every three months after completing ICT and computer skills training at the center, adding that the initiative also recognizes the youth of Northern Bahr el Ghazal for their commitment to peace.

Part of a Wider Digital Inclusion Push

The Aweil ICT Hub is designed as a center for learning, collaboration, and innovation, offering access to digital skills training, scholarships, and educational opportunities that support entrepreneurship and youth development. The initiative forms part of MTN South Sudan's broader strategy to promote digital inclusion nationally, ensuring communities across the country are equipped to participate in the growing digital economy.

MTN acknowledged the collaboration of the Government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, local stakeholders, and educational institutions in establishing the facility, positioning the hub as a long-term contribution to the region's socio-economic growth.
