Makerere-Backed TES Program Opens Applications for Uganda's Tech Innovators

Ugandans with an early-stage tech idea, from a rough sketch to a working prototype, now have a structured path to turn it into a market-ready venture. The Technology Entrepreneurship Seed (TES) Program has opened its first cohort, offering training, mentorship, and catalytic funding to residents across the country.

Applications for TES are open through MIIC Hub until September 14, 2026, with the three-month program running from September 16 to November 30, 2026. Only 25 spots remain in the program's inaugural cohort.

Who Can Apply

The program is open to members of the general public physically residing in Uganda, whether Ugandan citizens or non-citizens legally residing in the country, provided applicants are at least 18 years old. Participants must be available to attend in-person activities throughout the program, including training sessions, prototyping work, market fieldwork, coaching, pitch practice, and Demo Day.

What the Program Offers

TES is designed to bridge the gap between early ideation and investment readiness. Participants gain access to structured training, business coaching and mentorship, shared facilities and resources, and light catalytic funding to support prototyping and validation.

The program spans eight technology focus areas; digital and software technologies, robotics and automation, IoT and embedded systems, advanced manufacturing, energy and environmental tech, health and biotechnology, AR/VR and simulation tools, and blockchain.

What Graduates Will Walk Away With

By the end of the three months, participants are expected to produce a validated prototype or minimum viable product, documented through photos, video, or live demonstration, alongside evidence of problem-solution fit gathered through customer interviews and surveys.

Teams will also leave with a structured feedback report, an investor-ready pitch deck and business plan, and, where applicable, guidance on legal and intellectual property readiness, including registration, patents, and trademarks.

Behind the Program

TES is led by a team including Programs Lead Gilbert Buregyeya, who brings over a decade of experience in Uganda's entrepreneurship ecosystem, and Curriculum and Learning Associate Milly Nakintu, alongside a wider team covering product development, mentorship, and applicant onboarding.
