GDG Kigali Launches Immersive Study Jams and Hackathon

AI Quick Summary
- GDG Kigali is organizing a "Build with AI" program in March 2026 to enhance artificial intelligence skills among developers in Kigali.
- The program includes two hands-on "Study Jam" sessions scheduled for March 20 and March 27, 2026.
- These study jams will focus on building AI-powered applications using Google technologies such as Gemini, Vertex AI, and AI Studio, with guidance from facilitators and Google Cloud credits.
- The series will culminate in an "Innovation Hackathon" on March 28, 2026, where participants will develop and prototype AI solutions.
- The initiative aims to foster learning, networking, and collaboration within Kigali's growing tech community, supporting Rwanda's tech ecosystem.
As of March 7, 2026, these "Build with AI" events are scheduled to take place later this month, while GDG Kigali has also been involved in other tech initiatives around this period, such as the International Women's Day 2026 event.
Kigali’s growing developer community will soon have a new opportunity to deepen their artificial intelligence (AI) skills through a series of events organized by Google Developer Groups (GDG) Kigali.
The program, titled “Build with AI,” includes two study jam sessions followed by an innovation hackathon. The events aim to help developers learn how to build AI-powered applications using Google technologies such as Gemini, Vertex AI, and AI Studio.
Hands-on AI Learning for Developers
The first event, Build with AI: Study Jam #1, will take place on March 20, 2026, at the Digital Transformation Center Rwanda in Kigali. A second session, Study Jam #2, will follow on March 27 at the same venue.
These study jams are designed as practical learning sessions where developers can explore AI tools by building small projects and experimenting with new technologies.
Participants will receive guidance from experienced facilitators and will also gain access to Google Cloud credits, allowing them to test and develop their ideas in real-world environments.
Beyond technical learning, the sessions will also give attendees an opportunity to connect with other developers, share ideas, and collaborate with people interested in AI innovation.
Innovation Hackathon to Turn Ideas into Projects
The learning series will conclude with an Innovation Hackathon scheduled for March 28, 2026.
During the hackathon, participants will apply the skills gained from the study jams to prototype and develop AI solutions. Developers of all experience levels are encouraged to participate, whether they are just beginning their journey in artificial intelligence or looking to expand their existing knowledge.
The event is expected to bring together students, professional developers, and technology enthusiasts interested in exploring how AI can be applied to real-world challenges.
Supporting Kigali’s Tech Community
Community-led initiatives like GDG Kigali play an important role in strengthening Rwanda’s tech ecosystem. By organizing workshops, training sessions, and hackathons, these groups help developers learn new technologies and collaborate on innovative projects.
As artificial intelligence continues to shape the future of software development, events like the Build with AI series provide local developers with valuable opportunities to gain practical experience and contribute to the growing AI community in Rwanda.
