Digital Talent Program Targets 20,000 Rwandan Youth with Free Digital Skills Training

Young Rwandans interested in technology are being encouraged to join the Digital Talent Program (DTP), a nationwide initiative aimed at building practical digital skills for the job market.

The program, implemented by IHS Towers Group in partnership with the Ministry of ICT and Innovation and the Rwanda ICT Chamber, plans to train 20,000 youth across Rwanda through structured online learning over the next two years. 

Bridging Rwanda's Digital Skills Gap

As digital technologies continue to transform industries, the demand for skilled professionals is growing. The Digital Talent Program was established to help bridge this gap by providing accessible training opportunities to young people from different educational and professional backgrounds.

According to the program, the training is designed to create a digitally skilled workforce capable of supporting Rwanda's ambitions for digital transformation and economic growth.

Wide Range of Technology Courses

Participants can choose from several technology-focused learning paths, including Software Development, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML), Cloud Computing, DevOps, UI/UX Design, Product Management, Data Analysis and Visualization, Animation, Quality Assurance, and Game Development.

The program is delivered primarily online and allows learners to study at their own pace. Participants are expected to have access to a digital device, preferably a personal computer, and a reliable internet connection to complete course materials and assignments.

Impact and Success Story

The Rwanda ICT Chamber also highlighted the experience of DTP graduate Yvonne MUKABERA, who won the DTP National Hackathon. According to the program, her journey through DTP helped her become more resilient and solution-oriented, while also strengthening her software development skills.

Her experience reflects how the program is helping young people build both technical and personal skills that prepare them for opportunities in the technology sector.

Supporting Rwanda's Digital Future

The initiative aligns with Rwanda's broader vision of digital inclusion and aims to prepare young people for emerging opportunities in the technology sector. While the training is offered free of charge, participants are responsible for their own internet access and learning equipment.
